The Bennington Post-Bac Program

The Postbaccalaureate Program at Bennington—among the oldest and best in the nation—prepares highly motivated people who have already experienced academic success for the challenges of medical school. In one year at Bennington, you will complete the required course work for medical school admission (and many other health professions), gain a solid body of scientific knowledge, and, above all, develop a passion for scientific inquiry.

Bennington believes that approaching the sciences by engaging directly in the process of problem solving is the best preparation for a career as a doctor, veterinarian, physical therapist, nurse practitioner, dentist, or any of dozens of other health-related careers. Hands-on engagement also creates the strongest intellectual foundation for ongoing learning and professional advancement.

You will work alongside practicing scientists who are committed to helping you develop your own areas of interest and inquiry. You will work with upper-level undergraduates in classes that generally number no more than 15 students. You will have access to labs, with equipment and facilities for developing your own projects or working with faculty members on their ongoing research. Bennington’s seven-week winter Field Work Term provides the opportunity to take your classroom studies to the larger world.

Bennington—one of our nation’s most renowned institutions of higher education—is located in a beautiful corner of New England and offers easy access to skiing, biking, hiking, concerts, museums, major metropolitan areas, and mountain ranges. For the adult learner who is committed to a career in a health-related field, there is no more intellectually challenging or beautiful place to open the doors to the world of medicine.
