Dickinson Hall is home to many science classrooms, labs, and faculty offices.

Sample Timeline for application to Medical School for students in the One-Year Program:

Post-Bac Year Summer Term
  • 3 courses Summer courses meet every day for ten weeks with labs in the afternoon. Chemistry and Biology times are integrated starting after the third week
Fall Term
  • 3 or 4 courses
  • Student makes list of possible med schools
  • Student determines what she/he will do over Field Work Term
  • Student initiates volunteer or research opportunities
Spring Term
  • 3 or 4 courses
  • Student prepares to submit med school application [June 1] by writing personal statement, collecting transcripts, contacting references, and doing well in classes.
  • Student submits med school application [as soon after June 1 as grades are received]
Application Year Summer
  • Prepare for August MCAT.
  • Take MCAT in August.

    Note: As of 2007 there will be more dates available as the MCAT will be electronic. This will speed up the turn around time for the scores and make it more important to have the application submitted early.

Continuing
  • Reference letters: We collect from you additional reference letters and send them out with your committee letter when you respond to your secondary applications.
  • Moral Support: The Pre-health Advisor is available to answer questions by phone or email as your application is being processed or as you prepare for interviews.

We understand that this time is very stressful and we will do all we can to help. The Pre-health Advisor is a member of the National Association of Advisors of the Health Professions and this resource can be tapped when unfamiliar questions come up. Regular meetings of this organization allow interaction with medical school admissions officers and other advisors.
