Search Tips
The following tips are based on Adobe Reader version 6.0. There may be slight differences in other
versions. To download Adobe Version 6.0 click
here.
- Type the word or phrase that you are searching for
in the Google search box (eg. author, title of published text, historical figure, etc.).
This will send you to a page of search results linking to all the issues of the abstracts that
contain that word or phrase. You may now select any link by clicking on it.
- Once you click on a link it will open an
Adobe Reader software
window within your web browser. You can now search for your word or phrase within the document
by clicking on the binocular icon near the top right side of the toolbar. Alternately, you may
type "Ctrl"+"F" to bring the same search box.
- Click "Find". The first place where your search term occurs in the abstract will
be highlighted.
- If you are not satisfied with the first result of the search and would like to search
elsewhere in the document, click on the next link in the "Results" box within the search
window. All the results displayed in that box are the occurrences, in order, of
your search topic in that volume of the abstracts. Alternately, go to the next search result
by typing "Ctrl"+"G".
- To go to a previous search result, use the same "Results" box or type "Shift"+"Ctrl"+"G".
(Note: The keyboard shortcut takes you to the immediately preceding search result. From the "Results"
box you may select any search result in the document.)
- If your search term contains diacritical marks:
For example, if you are searching for Høyrup, then typing
Hoyrup (with no slash in the 'o') will not produce correct results. Most
keyboards do not contain diacritical marks, so you may not be able to type marks such as "Ø."
Instead, type the part of the word that does not contain the diacritical
mark (e.g., just "yrup" instead of the whole name "Høyrup").
- To select or highlight some text in the document in order to copy and paste for further searches
of that text, click on the "Select Text" icon in the toolbar. To revert to the hand scroll setting,
click on the icon in the toolbar with a hand made on it.
- Volumes 23 - 30 of the abstracts have a slightly different appearance than previous
volumes. This does not affect the search methods.
